The elders at Island Bible Chapel believe in the importance of preaching a biblical gospel. To that end, we’ve studied the Scriptures and written a the following summary which we use to train our staff and volunteer leaders in order to ensure we are faithfully proclaiming the gospel in our outreach.
What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the good news that God loves us and sent His Son Jesus to seek and save sinners. (John 3:16; Luke 19:10; 1 Tim. 1:15)
Why is this good news?
God’s plan solves our problem.
Our Problem
God is holy and righteous and will not tolerate sin in his presence forever. He is just and must punish the wicked. Because everyone has sinned we are separated from God.
(Ps. 24:3-4; Hab. 1:13; Rom. 1:18, 3:23)
God’s Plan
God is loving, gracious and merciful. He sent his perfect Son Jesus to die in our place to pay the penalty for our sins and rise again to conquer death so that He can save people and still be just. (Is. 53:5; Romans 3:25-26; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Eph. 2:4-9)
How are we saved?
Anyone who repents of their sin and believes in Jesus Christ as God, committing to follow Him, will be forgiven, declared righteous and given the gift of eternal life. (Acts 20:21; Rom. 3:22, 5:9, 6:23)
Anyone who does not do this is already condemned to eternal punishment. (John 3:18, 36; Matt. 25:46)
